Do You Believe in the Law of Attraction?

balloonsRecently I heard something in passing about the law of attraction. Somebody was talking about how they focused their thoughts on something that they wanted to happen and suddenly it did.

Right away thoughts of Oprah’s book club and The Secret popped into my head. For anyone who hasn’t heard of this, the law of attraction is the belief that thoughts and people are energy and that positive or negative energy will bring positive or negative effects.

When I first heard about the law of attraction  I was a bit younger and I wrote the entire school of thought off without a second thought, but as I’ve grown older I’ve learned not to write off other people’s beliefs so easily. So I did some reading and came up with my own conclusion.

But before I get into that I want to say that I’m not seeking to discredit anyone, all types of belief are based on a lack of scientific evidence and an abundance of faith. I don’t think that something isn’t real because you can’t prove the plausibility of it.

I don’t personally believe that positive or negative thoughts will always bring about corresponding results but I do think that if you spend more time thinking about positive outcomes then you will be more likely to actually put those plans into action and bring about the reality that you want. Likewise, if you spend your time thinking negative thoughts I think you would be prone to either not doing anything to improve your situation or even sabotaging yourself.

I think that attributing everything in your life to the thoughts and energy that you put out into the world is a dangerous game. In life bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. Even in the short years that I’ve been alive, I have seen people be have to deal with really crappy situations who exude nothing but positive energy.

I think that thought has a profound affect on our level of happiness, contentment, and also on our actions. However, I think that there are many other things that factor into bringing positive and negative events to our lives.

What about you guys, do you believe in the law of attraction?

  1. I agree with you on this. I think the law of attraction is more of a self-fulfilling prophesy where people exude positive behavior, so are inclined to notice more positive outcomes and work harder toward those results. And vice versa.

    • Definitely, I think that sometimes we need to make ourselves believe that positive outcomes are possible in order to work up the courage and confidence to go after our goals. Thanks for stopping by!
