1. The Grinch
This movie has been a favorite of mine since I was a little kid. It has the right amount of silliness and holiday cheer for me. I adore everything about it especially the outlandish design of Whoville. There’s just something so magical about the idea of a whole world existing on a snowflake.
2. A Christmas Carol (1999)
Although there are many adaptations of the Dickens classic the one that I am most familiar with is the 1999 version. It stars Patrick Stewart, you may also know him as Professor X, and I can say that without a doubt he is my favorite Ebenezer to date. He gives a very convincing performance and really presents a Scrooge that you can emphasize with.
3. Eloise at Christmastime
I LOVE Eloise. This movie just oozes charm and fluff, which makes it perfect for the holiday season. In this film Eloise is up to her usual mischievous antics at the Plaza; matchmaking, melding, and getting her Christmas list together. This is definitely a feel good film. As Eloise says, “think pink, a better way of life.”
4. The Polar Express
This animated film captures the child-like wonder that Christmas used to hold for us as kids. It is about a young boy who doubts the existence of Santa Claus and is whisked away for an adventure to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. Tom Hanks voices seven characters in the film, yep seven, because he’s just that amazing.
5. Doctor Who Christmas Specials
I’ve saved the best for last! I look forward to the Christmas specials for Doctor Who every. Even though every episode is special, the holiday episodes really act as an ode to the series. The show in itself is a British tradition and I just adore how the creators always manage to retain that element of a traditional Christmas but also tie in the timey wimey elements that make a us love the show. I have to say that my favorite Christmas episode was the season 6 episode “A Christmas Carol” starring Matt Smith as the Doctor.
What’s your favorite holiday special?
