HBO’s supernatural hit True Blood has come to an end. After seven seasons, the creators of the show have ended things in a very thorough and strangely dissatisfying finale. I am a big fan of the series. I’ve watched it from the beginning and I was anticipating this season to be a thrilling conclusion to the series. I wanted it to go out with a bang, instead it went out with fizzle.
When this season started and the Hep-V positive vampires were unleashed onto the world it was pretty exciting. We were all thinking “how are they going to stop the virus” and “who will be killed as a result of it.” But somewhere around the mid season mark I just didn’t give a fuck what happened to anyone on the show. The story was lacking in more ways than one and I had no emotional investment to any of the characters.
By the last episode they managed to wrap everything up but they wrapped it up a little too tightly. Maybe its the cynic in me but I just felt like everyone was too happy, things just ended too perfectly. Sookie got her normal human life, Pam and Eric became millionaires, and the rest of the cast were shown leading fulfilled lives.
This show was based around excitement, love, lust, power struggles, and danger. It ended with the characters leading boring, and uneventful futures. I don’t know, something just didn’t sit right with me. Possibly because I don’t find the need for every story to end with happily ever after. What did you think of the season finale?
