Holy crap this movie scared the pants off of me! I’m not ashamed to say that I was looking around every corner after watching it to check that ghosts/demons weren’t following me. I am always interested in watching horror films that are based on true events so when I read the description and did a little research on the characters in the film and their real life counter parts I was immediately drawn in.
I would rate the scare factor of this film at a 3.8 out of 5. It had me jumping and braced on the edge of my seat throughout the film and it also kept me up for a few hours afterwards. Vera Farmiga who portrays Lorraine Warren, a medium who specialized in paranormal investigations along with the help of her husband Ed, was thoroughly convincing in her role and I became an even bigger fan of hers after watching the Conjuring.
The movie tells the tale of the Perron family who in the early 70’s moves into a historic farmhouse in Rhode Island. After moving in they find that the house has malicious intentions. A trail of mysterious and frightening events leads the family to contact the Warrens and ask for their help in investigating the home and they discover that the home has a deeply disturbing history
Though it does end rather predictably, I enjoyed the film and thought that the performances as well the story were developed in great detail. There was also a great set up for the follow up movie The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist which is due to be released this coming October.
