Though many people have reservations her, I am personally a huge fan of Lana Del Rey. Some dub her nods to 60’s Americana and Hollywood glamor cliche, but in my opinion she is an extremely talented artist whose views on relationships and sexuality may not grant her the privilege of being known as a “Hollywood sweetheart” but she always stays true to her vision which in my opinion is more valuable than simply appeasing the masses. As soon as I heard about the new album that she was creating I couldn’t wait to hear the first sounds and lucky for me she is finally starting to release songs from the album!
A few weeks ago the track “Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight” was leaked and rumored to be from Lana Del Rey’s new album Ultraviolence. Soon after, she released the official audio for the song “West Coast” marking the first song which will undoubtedly be on the album. Sadly Lana tweeted that the disco inspired “Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight” is actually an old song that was never released and will not be on the album. However, we can breath easy knowing that “West Coast” will be. What I love about the song is that it retains the intoxicating blues inspired vocals that we’ve come to expect from her, but also brings a more relaxed and easy element to the song showing us that although this album stays true to her style, she’s maturing as an artist and allowing her music to develop.
