Becoming a self-published author

Graduating seniors at my university are required to complete a capstone project. The project entails to portions; a literature review and a creative project. There weren’t really any parameters for the project except for the fact that it had to fall within the field of media and communications. Throughout my college career the majority of my writing has been non-fiction and editorial, but my greatest love has always been creative writing and I decided that I wanted to create a work of fiction. After grappling with many ideas I decided that I would create a short novel.

The process proved to be more trying than I expected, due to the fact that I was on such a tight schedule. Some people spend years writing before they release a novel. Though it was a push, the time constraints also gave me more motivation to complete the project and make my vision a reality. Sharing my work was so nerve wracking but I’m glad that I did it and I learned a lot through the process. I self published through Amazon which was an incredibly simple process. If you are thinking of publishing your first work but are unsure if fiction writing is for you, this is a great way to test the waters.

The experience was highly enriching and a great note to end my undergraduate education on. If you have any questions about creative writing or my journey feel free to reach out to me. You can find a description and link to my novel on the Literature page, and a review of the book on Diary of a Romance Reader.
